Becoming a dental hygienist in Florida is really that bad?

Thank author of this post/commentWell, I have done dental education out of the U.S.A, I am a married female with 2 kids, and already change my major once.I am 4o years old and diabetic patient as well.I have made my mind to go to dental hygene program to get a job in dental then I fulfill the requierments for dental school later if I can. However, all I hear is that Florida is saturated with dental hygienists and I will not find a job.I was shadowing a dental hygienist who graduated 5 years ago and she was mentioning all the time that if it was her she wouldn't do dental hygene because of lack of benefits and dentists dont want to pay properly.......all in all please let me know with any information, is it really that bad in Florida? Thanks

I don't think so. As far as I am concerned Florida Dental Hygiene Association is improving their access to oral health care and to extend their service to more people. So I think they need more dental hygienist. If you have a good qualification and a registered dental hygienist you can rightfully do an oral screening. On the other hand, I am not really sure how much they get from it.

Don't lose hope. If what Marynor said of the Florida Hygiene Association is true then you have a good chance of becoming a dental hygienist there. But you have to prove that you deserve to be an accredited dental hygienist there.

Still, you might want to consider working as a dental hygienist in another state if competition is too tough in Florida. Or you might want to consider choosing another career.

That is true. You can still consider working in some other place if you think you cannot make it in Florida. I bet that you can still get an employment anywhere else. Also you can choose to change path of career if you want to. Or look for a job related to your field of work. Good luck on you and to your career. I hope that you'd be able to land on a job soon.

Hi there!

I think that competition in every state to acquire a job is really tough and just natural. The only thing that would differ depends on the person himself. If you are determined and if you really want to become a dental hygienist in Florida, then go for it. Go with the flow and just do your best.

Thank you so much and have a great day to all!

I think you should see it for yourself before believing the opinion of others because we all have different perspective. If you really want to apply as dental hygienist in Florida so you should go for it. Try for yourself so that you would have nothing to regret in the future. Prove to them that you qualify to that position and give your best shot. Good luck and I know you can do it!
