I recently found this article about OGS and I though others might like to read it. The article is written by Brian Nixon, who was inducted as a Fellow of the Society of Scholars at Oxford Graduate School in April, 2009.He writes about the history of Dayton, TN, where the school is located and he writes about the school's history and mission. Brian Nixon and the other Fellows of the society of Scholars are doctoral graduates of OGS, and other schools, who have shown scholarship in their study and their commitment to research.

"Oxford Society of Scholars: Lifelong Learning"
Brian Nixon was inducted as a Fellow in the Oxford Society of Scholars in April, 2009. This particular society is one of the backbones of the scholarly heritage of Oxford Graduate School. They have an ongoing call for papers for reading at Society meetings 4 times per year. The object of the Society is to foster lifelong learning in the areas of the integration of religion and society. The following is the description of the society given in the OGS Catalog: "The Oxford Society of Scholars is an integral part of OGS and was established to promote lifelong learning and scholarly research. Society members invite scholars who hold doctoral degrees and who are interested in such research to become members. The Society provides mechanisms through which members may share their work with each other, collaborate and encourage one another to continue a life of research, and impact contemporary society through investigation and implementation of strategies that relieve societal distress. The Society does not advocate research for its own sake; it shares the global mission of Oxford Graduate School to change the world." "Graduates from Oxford Graduate School who hold the DPhil degree enter the Society as Initiates. From that point one may, by presenting substantial research papers through the Oxford Forum Panel of Referees, advance through the Fellow, Diplomate, and Scholar levels. Through a separate, more structured academic track, one may earn the DLitt degree. Detailed information about the Society is given during the Graduate Colloquy."

"Oxford Society of Scholars: Lifelong Learning"
I'm really interested in this Society and I'll probably get involved with it after I graduate. Because the OGS curriculum is focused on how to perform academic research, I assume that I will want to apply my research skills on an ongoing basis.I also noticed that there is a reference to a DLitt degree (Doctor of Literature) somehow associated with the OGS or the Society of Scholars. I assume that this means that there is some kind of structure or process by which OGS awards this DLitt degree for a person's research activities within the Society. Does anyone know more about this? • Page 1 (Original Post) •
